NDDC Reassures on Educational Development
 
Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has said that it would remain committed in its efforts to attain qualitative education in the country by rendering assistance for the improvement of facilities in the higher institutions of learning as well as lower levels of education.
Acting managing director of the NDDC, Pastor Power Agamghaa, expressed the resolve during the presentation of equipment, comprising a 375 KVA Perkins generator and a Swaraj 978 tractor to the Veritas University, Abuja at its Obehie campus in Ukwa West local government.
The NDDC boss, who was represented by the Abia state Coordinator of NDDC, Mr. Osmond Adiele, said that as a developmental agency, the NDDC “is truly concerned with the education of the people of Abia State, especially those within the oil producing area of Ukwa West, adding that it has amply demonstrated its interest in the enhancement of education quality.

He said that the NDDC was pleased at the location of the take-off campus of the Catholic University of Nigeria (Veritas University) at Obehie, describing the decision as a catalyst for development.

“I want to assure you that NDDC will always be by your side to support your developmental strides,” he said.
The Catholic Bishop of Aba, Rt Rev Vincent Ezeonyia, who received the equipment on behalf of the Chancellor of the University, Archbishop John Onayekan of Abuja Archdiocese, said that with the NDDC assistance the institution would be encouraged to pursue its objective of turning out graduates well grounded in character and learning.

Vice chancellor of Veritas University, Professor Justin Ukpong, expressed gratitude to the management of NDDC for accepting to donate the equipment to the institution following a request he had made in February 2008.
He however urged the Commission to look into other areas of the University for more assistance because “we’re not working for ourselves but for the community and the whole of Nigeria.”
