Papal Secretary Commends Veritas University for high standards

The Papal Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations, Archbishop Paul Gallagher, visited Veritas University, Abuja, where he commended the University's commitment to academic excellence, discipline, and the formation of future leaders. During the visit, he praised the University's achievements and reaffirmed the Catholic Church's dedication to education and healthcare. The papal delegation also toured the campus and received updates on the University's growth and development.

The Papal Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations, Archbishop Paul Galagher has commended the Vice Chancellor and Management of Veritas University, Bwari-Abuja for setting high standards for the school and maintaining a high level of discipline among its students that will serve as examples to others.

Speaking when he visited the University in Abuja, Archbishop Galagher noted that Veritas must remain committed to producing graduates that stand out both in the society and when they assume leadership positions in the country.

The Archbishop who was accompanied on the Visit by the Papal Nunicio, Archbishop Michael Francis Crotty and the Secretary General of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria, Reverend Father Michael Ayanleke Banjo, said Education and Health Care remain the core areas where the Church distinguishes itself.

ā€œWhat you are doing here is very impressive. I am happy to be here to witness what I have read about. Education and Healthcare are the areas that the church distinguishes itself. What you are doing here is good, training future political, economic and technological leaders of the country. This is an excellent thing. I am excited about what has happened here in the past few years, and I pray for the best for the University in the futureā€ he said.

In a brief remark, the Papal Nuncio, said the Visit to Veritas by the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations underscores the importance placed by the Papacy on the Catholic University of Nigeria.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Rev. Fr. Prof. Monsignor Michael Sasa thanked the Papal Envoy for finding time to Visit Veritas University during his official trip to Nigeria.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor who stood in for the Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Professor Hyacinth Ichoku briefed the visiting Papal Official on the achievements recorded by the University since inception.

He informed the Holy See’s Secretary for Relations with States and International Organisations that Veritas University operates 43 Departments across 12 faculties with a student population of more than seven thousand, all of them resident on Campus.

The papal delegation was taken on a tour of the campus by the Deputy Vice Chancellor before their final departure.
