The Department of English and Literary Studies, established in the 2008/2009 academic session as a pioneer department in the Faculty of Humanities, has grown into a vibrant intellectual community focused on the holistic development of students. It is founded on the belief that language is central to human culture and literature reflects the human soul. The department goes beyond teaching language proficiency by equipping students with a strong command of English—covering syntax, phonology, and semantics—while also fostering aesthetic appreciation and moral integrity. In line with the University’s mission, it integrates academic excellence with Christian values, preparing graduates to navigate a multilingual world, think critically, promote justice, and contribute to national and global development. Its vision is to be a leading Centre where language, literature, and literacy shape and transform humanity. The department promotes values such as hard work, integrity, discipline, and creativity, while serving as a bridge between tradition and innovation through: A humanistic focus on literary critique, ethical reasoning, and cultural preservation. Engagement with modern advancements like digital humanities, computational linguistics, and digital storytelling A strong moral foundation rooted in humility, truth, and service to God and society. Graduates are distinguished by their logical reasoning, effective and confident communication, and high ethical standards in both personal and professional life.
