The Department of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology is one of the four pioneer Departments with which the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences was established in 2021. This Department handles a broad aspect of the Pharmacy curriculum. In this Department, the Pharmacy students are taught the concepts and practices of Dispensing (the science and arts of compounding, packaging and labeling of extemporaneous medications). Pharmaceutics is the science of dosage forms design, while Pharmaceutical Technology is the science of dosage forms production and quality assurance. This summarizes the diversity of topics encompassed in the Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology curriculum. The course contents are spread over the six years of training for award of the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Degree. The courses handled in this Department are structured in a manner such that almost every topic discussed in the lectures is demonstrated actively in the laboratory. This arrangement provides the students ample opportunity to internalize the concepts. Students are given opportunity to personally practicalize the concepts in the form of well-designed, but simplified exercises. This Department uses two laboratories for the various practical lessons. The laboratories are well-equipped with modern tools and instruments that are adequate for undergraduate training in Pharmacy. Competent and experienced technologists and assistants are on ground to ensure that student comply with standard laboratory etiquette. The Department can boast of highly qualified academics, with four professors and two lecturers. These dedicated academics consistently deploy their wealth of experience in the lecture rooms and laboratories. The students ultimately come out to be better with relevant knowledge. The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences may admit eligible persons seeking admission into the Pharmacy programme of Veritas University. Candidates admitted through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) undergo a standard 6-year (12-semester) programme culminating in the award of PharmD degree. Those admitted by Direct Entry undertake the programme for a standard duration of five academic sessions (10 semesters).
