The Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology & Biotechnology is an academic unit within the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Veritas University Abuja, dedicated to advancing knowledge in pharmaceutical microbiology, molecular biology, and biotechnology. The Department focuses on the study of microorganisms and their impact on the development, safety, quality, and effectiveness of medicines while equipping students with the scientific knowledge, practical laboratory skills, and research competencies needed to address emerging healthcare and pharmaceutical challenges. Committed to academic excellence, the Department provides high-quality education and hands-on training for students in the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) programme through a curriculum that integrates microbiology, immunology, biotechnology, biopharmaceuticals, and antimicrobial resistance. Plans are also underway to introduce postgraduate programmes, including the M.Pharm. and M.Sc. degrees, which will focus on advanced research in microbial characterization, sterile product formulation, bioinformatics, and other specialized areas of pharmaceutical microbiology and biotechnology. The Department promotes research and innovation in areas such as antimicrobial resistance, probiotics, vaccine development, biotechnology, and the discovery of new antimicrobial agents. Through its modern Pharmaceutical Microbiology and Biotechnology Laboratory, students gain practical experience that complements classroom learning and prepares them for careers in pharmaceutical industries, research institutions, healthcare organizations, regulatory agencies, academia, and related sectors.
