
The Department of Microbiology is one of the academic units within the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences at the University. It was established in the 2019/2020 academic session, commencing with 140 undergraduate students, and has since expanded to include postgraduate studies, with enrolment at both Bachelor’s and master’s levels. The Department offers programmes leading to the award of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) degrees in Microbiology. The undergraduate programme is designed not only to provide specialized knowledge in microbiology but also to address national development needs. It is structured in line with the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved standards, ensuring relevance, quality, and alignment with global best practices. The postgraduate programmes further provide advanced knowledge and a balanced understanding of the discipline, preparing graduates for academic and professional careers.
