The Department of Pure and Applied Physics is one of the pioneer departments of Veritas University, Abuja (The Catholic University of Nigeria), established in 2007. The University commenced academic activities in the 2008/2009 session at its take-off campus in Obehie, Abia State. From inception, the Department offered undergraduate programmes in Physics with Electronics and Industrial Physics. It currently offers Physics with Electronics, which is fully accredited by the National Universities Commission, under the leadership of Dr. Raymond C. Abenga. The Department operates on the guiding principle of “seeking the truth scientifically” within a disciplined and values-driven academic environment. It emphasizes accountability, integrity, responsibility, and transparency, alongside virtues such as patience, tolerance, and self-sacrifice. Staff and students work collaboratively in an atmosphere that promotes creativity, hard work, and mutual respect, with a strong commitment to developing graduates who are distinguished in both character and learning. Committed to academic excellence, the Department provides a solid foundation in Physics as a basis for careers in science and technology. It recognizes the relevance of Physics to diverse professional fields, including engineering, applied sciences, information technology, medical sciences, and mineral exploration. The Department aims to equip students with broad and balanced knowledge of Physics, while developing practical and analytical skills. It fosters enthusiasm for the discipline and encourages an appreciation of its real-world applications. Through intellectually engaging learning experiences, students are trained to apply theoretical and practical knowledge to solve complex problems and are well-prepared for advanced studies and career development.
