Dean's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Veritas University Abuja.

I am Professor Simon Koma Okwute, Professor of Organic and Natural Products Chemistry, former National President of the Chemical Society of Nigeria, and former Vice-Chancellor of Kogi State University. My research focuses on bioactive natural products for agriculture and medicine.

The Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences is committed to excellence in scientific education, innovative research, and the training of professionals equipped to solve real-world problems. We emphasize academic integrity, critical thinking, innovation, and practical problem-solving in all our programmes.

For the 2025/2026 academic session, the faculty offers six-degree programmes: Biochemistry, Computer and Information Technology, Microbiology, Pure and Applied Chemistry, Pure and Applied Physics, and Software Engineering. Biotechnology and Environmental Biology, as well as Mathematical Sciences, serve as supporting programmes within the Faculty.

Our blend of strong theoretical instruction and hands-on laboratory experience prepares students for successful careers in academia, industry, healthcare, research, and technology. The Faculty also contributes to scholarly advancement through the publication of *Frontiers in Natural and Applied Sciences* and the organization of workshops, seminars, and other academic activities that promote research and staff development.

We are dedicated to nurturing the next generation of scientists and leaders who will drive innovation and contribute meaningfully to society. Staff and students actively participate in academic, research, and professional engagements at institutional, national, and international levels.

Students from the Faculty, particularly those in Software Engineering and Computer & Information Technology, have distinguished themselves in several local and international innovation competitions. A major milestone was the African Telecommunication Union (ATU) Innovation Challenge held on 9 February 2024, where Veritas University, representing Nigeria, emerged in first place. This achievement further demonstrated the Faculty’s commitment to innovation, creativity, and technological advancement. Since then, students and staff within the computing programmes have developed several innovative solutions and products that are now positioned for commercialization and adoption by the private sector.

One of the Faculty’s key academic activities is the Students’ Orientation Programme, held at the beginning of every academic session for both new and returning students. The programme introduces students to important academic processes, including course registration procedures, lecture attendance requirements, assessment methods, academic regulations, and ethical standards expected within the University community.

The Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences remains committed to providing a stimulating learning environment that fosters excellence, discovery, innovation, and service to humanity.
